Geoff Spiby has been exploring the underwater world since he was a child. He grew up in Cape Town and learned snorkelling, scuba diving and surfing in its cold entrancing waters. He started taking underwater photographs when on honeymoon in the Maldives in 1984 and was hooked. On his return to Cape Town, he began perfecting his art, quite a challenge in the turbulent, often dirty waters around the Cape Peninsula. Since then, he has generated a huge library of underwater shots from places as diverse as the Red Sea, African east coast, the Maldives, Mozambique, Canada and Indonesia, and of course Cape Town. He enjoys going on trips on assignment, and has been to the Red Sea, Tanzania, Mozambique, Indonesia and the Maldives in this way. This was also how he took some of his Great White shots. His background has allowed him to specialise in getting good shots in difficult conditions. His love of the sea keeps him searching for the perfect shot. |
